The BMW LayerON Concept is a design developed for the future, with an outlook to 2015. Created by Turin IED students Aydar Nigmatullin, Patrick De Laet Moreno and Rocco Sergio D__Argento, and sponsored by BMW, the concept is built on the basis of consumer habits, preferences and the desire for personalization.
Built on the idea that a post-industrial society would be based on vast use of services and decreased buying, but increased renting of goods, the concept has been developed as a rental car. True to its name, the LayerON has a skeleton like structure covered by a layer of panels to create the __outer skin_. The panels are combined with the internal skeleton layer that has the ability to contract and dilate, thereby giving the vehicle a custom shape. Moreover, the design would allow downloading personal driver settings, for custom appearance and interface.
